MISSION STATEMENT
Today, there are approximately 400,000 A.S.E. certified automobile and truck technicians in the United States. Yet we have no representation or voice, in when or how the manufacturer cuts or changes our labor times. And how many times have you seen these cuts? It has been every year. I say it's time for a change. Technology has changed, making it more difficult to repair to days vehicles yet the manufacturers still cut warranty repair times. It's time for us to unite. Manufactures have all the say in determining how much money we can make. In the past fifteen years, prices for cars and trucks have tripled and so have shop labor rates. The technicians rate of pay has barely changed. When was the last time YOU got a raise??? We need to focus on changing the public and the media perception of our trade. We are skilled technicians and not grease monkeys. In terms of immediate and effective service to the public, we are the only producing factor in repair shops. Service managers, service writers, and service cashiers make their pay from our knowledge, skills, and tools. Chiltons and Motor manuals list labor times without seeing the time necessary to do a repair. Time studies are no longer done. Look at the previous years' labor guides. Labor times keep going down on the same cars and trucks. Let's face it. The reason for this is to lower the costs and increase the profit of the manufacturers and insurance companies. Again this is done at our expense. It is time for a change and together we can do it. We can no longer accept a policy at our expense where they call the tune and we dance to it. A balance and fair approach is what is needed. Thank You, Look for more from this site.
The Goals Of United Auto & Truck Technicians Website
- Review and correct the labor time it takes to do the repairs that are unfair, be it manufactures warranty or aftermarket labor guides times.
- To form an independent time study group to actually certify and review the unfair labor times, made up of technicians who have to do the repair in the field. Its unfair labor practice for the manufacture to do a time study and set the labor time to do the repair. After all, the manufacturer is doing the time studies under ideal conditions and how many of us technicians work under these ideal conditions.
- Demand the aftermarket labor guide companies to actually do the time study of a repair and not use supplied times from the manufacturer and add a token computation on these labor times. These aftermarket labor guide companies are just selling there books which we as technicians are made to abide by to do the repair and they are not an actual fair time study labor guide for the technician.
- This website feels that the manufacturer, aftermarket insurance policy companies, and the aftermarket labor guide companies are price fixing these labor times at the technicians expense. Is not price fixing against the law in this great country we live in?
- Look around you in the New Car Dealerships and Independent Automotive Shops, how many young apprentice technicians do you see? Almost non existent.
This generation of young people that are to replace us as we age are smarter than you think. They see what is happening to the modern tech. We need many many years of experience, schooling equal to a college education and 20 to 30 thousand dollars worth of tools to forge a living repairing cars and trucks. Together we can make a difference. Seperately we will never have any voice in our future, now is the time to do something that has been needed for many years.
- "IT'S OUR TURN"
