Medicine Horse provides an affordable continuum of healing experiences
of body, mind and spirit for challenged individuals and their families.
Utilizing the movement of the horse and therapy techniques, Medicine
Horse enables challenged individuals to grow in functional skills and
self esteem. The managed health care system has placed many children and
adults with long term disabilities at risk. Ongoing physical therapy
services are no longer available. Therapy sessions are limited to 20
to 30 per year or even for a lifetime. The problems of these children
and adults do not get better on their own. They often get worse. There
are few, if any alternatives for improving their functional skills.
Medicine Horse serves as a bridge between direct therapy services and
affordable, therapeutic activities that can help these persons continue
to improve their functional skills and to develop the pride that comes
from learning a new skill. Medicine Horse provides direct therapy
services in coordination with Children's Therapy Center in Hippotherapy
sessions. It also provides developmental, therapeutic, and recreational
riding experiences that allow the adult or child to progress at his or
her own pace. Medicine Horse also provides riding lessons for parents
or siblings to let this become a family oriented activity in which members
could participate.
